Spa Day - What To Expect On Your Spa Day
Spa Day pampering is definitely the in-thing and it’s becoming more and more popular every year.
The reason for this is most people live busy, hectic lives and a
spa day offers a haven of tranquility that allows you to pop in for a quick beauty treatment or a whole afternoon of complete and utter self indulgence.
Spa day sanctuaries are open from dawn till dusk and focus on health, beauty and well-being. They can either be nestled in idyllic locations or located in city-centre hotspots; all provide an instant retreat even if you are pushed for time.
For many, Spa Days are the perfect escape from today’s hectic life style and you can book a day to fit in with your busy schedule by choosing a one off pamper session, a morning or afternoon of indulgence, or a whole day to truly enjoy the experience and make full use of all the facilities on offer.
Your Spa Day - What Can A
Spa Day Do For You?
One of the main attractions of a
Spa Day is you can take time out to relax and indulge yourself and these are one of the few places where you are actively encouraged to forget your troubles and take pleasure in being pampered from head to toe. These days with so many different spa days to choose from, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.
Spa days have long been associated with manicures and mud wraps but these are just the tip of the iceberg. In today’s spa you can have treatments for just about any part of your body and well-being
to boost your natural beauty - ranging from teeth whitening, non-surgical face-lifts, hypnotherapy, colonic therapy, massages and Reiki.
However, a spa day is not just about the treatment because modern spas often have fabulous facilities for you to make the most of too. Choose from luxury pools, steam rooms, saunas or Jacuzzis, these little extras will go a long way to making your spa day truly unforgettable.
Depending on how much time you have to pamper yourself, there are different ways to enjoy your spa day experience. You can pop into a day spa for a mini fix of primping and preening, or splash out on a whole day of guiltless relaxation at a destination spa.
You might just be looking for a single treatment, such as a back massage to ease those aching shoulders, or a spot of yoga to calm you down and improve your posture. A spa day is another fantastic way to regenerate and unwind, away from the stresses of normal everyday life.
Tuck yourself away in the countryside or visit a new part of town to immerse yourself in a time warp where the outside world doesn't even begin to figure in your imagination.
Which Spa Day Treatment Should You Choose?
The available spa day treatments fall into two categories.
Firstly there are those that focus on relaxation and rejuvenation such as manicures, pedicures, facials and massages, these will get your skin glowing and are beauty treatments.
The second category are treatments that work on your body and will make you feel more beautiful such as skin peels, exfoliation, slimming and firming treatments.
Destination spas, hotel spas and health clubs also offer classes and therapies you can take part in, so whether you want to try pilates, ballroom dancing, karate or flower therapy, you can get a work out, as well as being ‘worked on’.
Spa Day Etiquette and Tips
Most people are nervous about their first
Spa Day and this is a natural reaction to not knowing what to expect especially if there’s some stripping off involved. What you must remember is there’s a first time for everyone and all spas employ professional staff who are more than happy to help. The whole point of going to a spa day is to relax, unwind and enjoy yourself so don’t let embarrassment spoil your day.
Follow these tips for a fuss-free spa day and remember if you are unsure about anything, from where to go to what to do - just ask someone.
Don’t - Worry about where to change. On arrival you'll be given your robe, towels etc and directed to somewhere where you can change in privacy - this will usually be in the spa’s changing rooms.
Don’t - Panic about de-robing. If you’re having a treatment, the therapist will tell you what you need to do and how far you need to strip off. You’ll then be left alone to get under the sheet or towel to cover your modesty before your treatment begins.
Don’t - Walk around naked. No matter how relaxed you’re feeling, most spas prefer your modesty to be covered, for your sake, as well as theirs.
Don’t - Miss out. Even if you don't fancy getting undressed, there are still plenty of treatments you can indulge in. Thai massage requires you to wear loose, light clothing, pedicures and reflexology simply require some sock-removal and for most facials, you just need your shoulders and neck uncovered.
Do - Ask what to wear. Depending on the type of treatment, there will usually be disposable paper pants on hand, but if you’d prefer to wear your own underwear or stay in your swimsuit, just check at reception or with your therapist.
Do - Take appropriate footwear. Spas often hand out slippers to wear but to be on the safe side, it’s always advisable to slip in a pair of flip-flops so you don’t have to walk round barefoot.
Do - Check in. Arrive at your spa day about fifteen minutes before your treatment is due to start - this will give you enough time to swap your clothes for robes and start to relax. Get there even earlier if you want to use other facilities first - a stint in the hot tub is a great way to get yourself in the mood for some serious pampering.
Do - Speak up. If you’d prefer either a male or female therapist, discuss this at the time of booking - the spa should be able to accommodate you!
Do - Always let your therapist know if you are in any pain, or are pregnant.
Do - Keep your phone switched off - for your benefit as much as everyone else's.
Do - Think about what you want from your spa day before you book. Whether it's to look better on the outside or feel better on the inside, choose the best spa day for your needs.
Do - Enjoy yourself!
