The Tanaka Face Massage is an anti aging facial massage you can do at home to get rid of signs of facial aging such as wrinkles and sagging skin on your face.
If you want your face to look younger then this is an excellent routine to add to your skin care regimen, it will lift your face naturally and reduce wrinkles, prevent sagging skin, improve ‘bull-dog’ lines, minimize large pores, improve puffy eyes and under-eye bags.
Also known as a natural face lift this Japanese beauty secret will help to contour your face and improve the look and health of your skin.
There are four short videos to watch that will demonstrate the Tanaka Face Massage to
you (see below). Firstly the massage is performed slowly on a model and all the steps are explained, you will learn how to do them and how they will help to lift your face. Next, you can watch as the model performs the facial massage on herself.
You must watch all of the videos to reap the benefits of performing this anti aging beauty secret on yourself and if you do it consistently everyday, Yukuko Tanaka says it will bring you back
your youthful look of ten years ago.

I have been using this face contouring method for a couple of weeks. To be honest, it took me a few days to remember all the movements and learn how to do them properly. I had to watch the videos several times and take notes but once you get into a routine the steps are really natural progressions that cover your entire face.
Once you become familiar
with the steps this massage does not take very long to perform, I spend
no more than five minutes on this every morning.
I can already see a difference, my face is definitely lifted especially around my cheeks and my eyes look more open. This is worth
practicing; I’m sure that given time this facial massage will bring about striking changes.
The Tanaka massage has 11 steps:
Warm-up exercise to prompt the flow of
lymph
STEP 1 Smooth the forehead and wrinkles between the eyebrows
STEP 2 Remove the swelling around eyes and improve puffy eyes
STEP 3 Lift up the corners of the mouth
STEP 4 Remove the blots on the nostrils and make the bridge of your nose higher
STEP 5 Remove the deep Nasolabial grooves and lift up the entire cheeks
STEP 6 Remove the Nasolabial groove in a focused way
STEP 7 Remove the fat from the nasal wings without making the Nasolabial grooves appear
STEP 8-1 Dissolve the sags in the areas between the cheekbones and the chin STEP 8-2 Remove the “bulldog line”
STEP 9 Remove a double chin and tighten a vague face line
STEP 10 Pull up the whole facial sag
STEP 11 Erase the transverse wrinkling on the forehead
I love this massage because it makes my face feel rejuvenated and I can see a difference in my overall face tone, smoothness and freshness.
According to the videos it’s recommended that you use a facial massage cream to prevent damaging your skin or making it red and sore. I’ve never used a facial massage cream before so I bought an inexpensive one from Amazon.co.uk that had good testimonials.
The cream is light without being too oily and it makes this anti aging facial massage much easier than if you were to attempt to use a normal facial moisturizer, (which I did while I was waiting for my massage cream to arrive and it’s not so effective).
If you would like to try it too you can find out more about it here: Strictly Professional Facial Massage 450ml It's
in a 450ml tub which will last for ages so it really is good value for money.
Item weight is 499 grams.
I searched for it on
Amazon.com but couldn't find it although they do have this one which
sounds just as good: The First Green Tea Natural Facial Massage Cream (Fermented Green Tea)
This one is in a slightly smaller tub although they don't actually state
the size, its item weight is listed as 10.6 ounces which is roughly 300
grams.
The main benefits of doing a Tanaka Face Massage are:
Improved lymphatic circulation
A reduction in under eye puffiness
More vibrant complexion
Reduction in Nasolabial grooves
Reduction in “Bulldog lines”
and Jowls
Contouring of face
Reduction of double chin fat
The downside
If you are prone to acne breakouts the Tanaka Face Massage may make them worse. If this happens, but you still want to continue, you could try using a good cleansing lotion instead of the facial massage cream. I have read
in a thread on the Essential Day Spa forum that this has solved the problem for
some women.
If you do not have a lot of fat on your face be cautious with using this massage too much because it is very powerful, there is a big difference between contouring your face and just looking gaunt. Once you are familiar with all the steps you can leave out any that do not fit into your plans for contouring your own face.
Keep in mind that the Tanaka massage is very powerful and it's easy to think that doing it more often will be better. But it's not. If you over massage your face you will cause unpleasant facial changes.
You must adapt it for your own face and maybe only do it once per day. You could also focus on the lymph drainage around the eyes and skip some of the movements focusing on the lower part of your face.
Also take into consideration that the Tanaka Massage was developed for Asian faces which have a slightly different bone structure to Caucasian faces and, apparently, they are also more prone to lymph blockages around the jaw. If you aren't ethnically Asian you may need to adapt it.
What is a Tanaka Massage?
The Tanaka massage was created by a Japanese beauty expert, Yukuko Tanaka. Whilst working as a makeup artist for film and TV she noticed many people of 40+ had young looking bodies but could not improve how their faces looked. Part of her role was to ensure that people looked young and fresh in front of the cameras; first she tried an aesthetic facial massage before applying makeup for them but this did not work. She spent many years learning about the relationship between skin, bones, muscles and lymph glands.
Finally she developed her own anti aging facial massage:
The Tanaka Massage.
You may be wondering what is the difference between the Tanaka massage and an aesthetic facial massage?
A normal aesthetic facial massage is done by making gentle circular movements on the skin. Whereas the Tanaka massage is deep and is done using all 10 fingers and your palms, with lots of pressure. Many steps are involved in pushing up and contouring your facial muscles.
My Thoughts
The Tanaka face massage is not simply a
lymph drainage massage; it also incorporates acupressure and some elements of ‘bone massage’. This is
what makes it is so powerful and effective. It works far better at lifting and contouring
your face than just a straightforward lymph drainage massage or normal aesthetic facial massage.
For you to see positive
results you do need to be consistent and get into a routine of doing
this anti aging facial massage everyday. If your skin is still quite
firm and toned you may not see a huge difference but if you are in your
30s, 40s or 50s, and especially if you've noticed your face is losing
some of its firmness and tone, then I highly recommend you do them
daily.
You can incorporate it into
your normal cleansing routine in the morning and it will only add a few
extra minutes. If you already use a cleansing oil you could do the
facial massage at the same time as you cleanse your face.
Although you will see small
changes daily you must be consistent and do these for a least two months
if you want noticeable face contouring and lifting.
